Mrs. Alicia Stratton began her career as a media specialist in Savannah, Georgia, and four years later became the Media Specialist at Jackson Road Elementary School in Griffin. After 19 years there she moved to Cowan Road Elementary School as a Kindergarten paraprofessional. Her time as a paraprofessional taught her a great deal and inspired her to join the TAPP program to become a certified teacher. 

Changing paths to teaching infused a new passion into Mrs. Stratton’s career. She carries many philosophies of a media specialist into her teaching role. Throughout her career she has worked to build instructional partnerships, promote a love of reading, and to teach lessons that are hands-on and engaging. Collaborative work sessions are a key component of lessons in her classroom.

Stratton was named Media Specialist of the Year for Griffin-Spalding County Schools, and for the South Metro Region of Georgia in 2010. She has been published in Savannah Magazine and School Library Media Magazine. Being named the 2026 Teacher of the Year for Cowan Road Elementary School is a great honor for which she is grateful.

In her spare time, Mrs. Stratton loves to read, attend sports events, and travel with her children. Some places she has enjoyed are Alaska, Paris, and Minnesota.
